SUNDERLAND will kick off the 2022-23 season with a home game against Coventry City.

The Black Cats' first game in the Championship for five seasons will be televised, with the Sky Blues visiting the Stadium of Light on Sunday, July 31 (noon kick-off).

Sunderland's first away game of the new campaign takes them to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on August 6, with the first round of the Carabao Cup preceding a home match against QPR.

August will also feature home games against Norwich and Rotherham, while September starts with the opening derby match of the season with Sunderland heading to the Riverside to face Middlesbrough on September 3.

With the 2022-23 season featuring a winter break because of the World Cup, Sunderland's final game before the shutdown will see them travel to Birmingham on November 12.

They return to action with a home game against West Brom on December 10, and will host Blackburn Rovers on Wearside on Boxing Day.

They head to Wigan for their final game of 2022 on December 29, before heading to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool on New Year's Day.

The home match with Middlesbrough is scheduled for January 21, and Sunderland's final home outing of the season will see them take on Watford on April 29.

The campaign then ends with a trip to Deepdale to face Preston on May 6.
