FORMER Sunderland boss Lee Johnson has been appointed as manager of Scottish Premier League side Hibernian.
Johnson, who has been out of work since his sacking at the Black Cats at the end of January, has signed a four-year deal with the Edinburgh based side.
He spent 14 months on Wearside guiding the club to the Papa John's Trophy at Wembley before being relieved of his duties following a 6-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers.
The 40-year-old has been appointed ahead of next season after Hibs finished seventh in the Scottish Premiership.
Johnson has previously had ties in Scotland having played for Hearts and Kilmarnock during his playing career.
Hibernian's Executive Chairman, Ronald J Gordon said: “Not only does Lee have great experience in management, but he also has knowledge of the Scottish and English game, will bring a definitive style of positive play to Hibs and has a proven record of success.
“We wanted a manager that would lead on recruitment and have a strong pool of knowledge in that area. He shares similar levels of ambitions for the Football Club and will instil a winning culture at Hibernian FC.
“We will support him in the transfer window, so he can put his own stamp on the squad as we look forward to, what will hopefully be a really successful 2022/23 campaign.
