How did the players fare in Newcastle's 5-0 defeat at Manchester City?
MAN CITY (4-2-3-1):
Ederson 6; CANCELO 8, Dias 7 (Fernandinho 46, 6), Laporte 8 (Egan-Riley 87), Zinchenko 7; Rodri 7, Gundogan 8; Sterling 8, de Bruyne 7, Grealish 7; Jesus 6 (Foden 63, 7).
Subs (not used): Steffen (gk), Ake, Silva, Mahrez, Mbete, Palmer.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
5 Dubravka: Gundogan’s volley for Man City’s second was well hit, but he might well feel he should have dealt with it better
4 Krafth: Struggled to deal with Grealish from open play and completely lost Rodri for City’s third goal
4 Lascelles: Had a torrid afternoon trying to deal with the Man City forward line as he returned to replace Schar
4 Burn: Couldn’t really handle the movement of the City attack and managed to pick up a booking when the ball was not even in play
4 Targett: Was up against it as he tried to contain the irrepressible Cancelo and was spent by the closing stages
6 GUIMARAES: Tried to muster some spirit and fight, and was arguably the only Newcastle player to ask questions of the City defence
4 Longstaff: Found himself overrun at the heart of midfield – with his contract due to expire this summer, there are still questions over his future
5 Joelinton: Was restored to his new midfield role, but never really looked like capable of keeping City in check
4 Almiron: Tried to offer some protection to those behind him, but offered absolutely nothing in the final third
5 Wood: Should have done better with an early header, and had a first-half effort rightly chalked off for offside
5 Saint-Maximin: Provided his usual mixture of excitement and infuriation – needs to concentrate on his own form rather than the failings of those around him
Subs:
5 Trippier (for Krafth, 68): Proved his wellbeing by returning for the final half-hour
5 Wilson (for Wood, 68): Should probably have scored when he broke clear before shooting at Ederson
Murphy (for Almiron, 80)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Dummett, Schar, Manquillo, Ritchie, Gayle.
Man Of The Match: JOAO CANCELO – Is notionally a full-back, but in reality is much more than that. Provided City’s most dangerous attacking threat for much of the game.
