MIDDLESBROUGH’S latest injury news sees Dael Fry ruled out for the trip to Bournemouth but they will be able to welcome back wing-back Isaiah Jones who has missed the last few games through illness.

Fry limped off in the first half of Boro’s defeat to Hull City at the weekend and there was concerns over the severity of the injury. The 24-year-old has had a number of injury problems this season and the latest blow adds to that with six games to go in the season. But the feeling is that Good Friday’s trip to the South Coast could be the only game he misses between now and the end of the season.

Speaking at this morning’s press conference, manager Chris Wilder said: “It’s going to be a struggle for him. He won’t be involved on Friday. Hopefully he might be okay for Monday but he’s out for Friday.

“He’s got an issue with his calf. His calf tightened up so it’s really disappointing because he’s been good.

Sol Bamba is expected to take his place in the heart of the Boro defence while Grant Hall has been waiting patiently in the wings to get his chance as Wilder continued: “We’ve got players that can come into that position. It’s how you deal with that. It’s how you deal with injuries and we won’t be the only team that has injuries between now and the end of the season.

“We were in the unique position that we had close to a fully fit squad of players to choose from. With Martin coming (Payero) back, he’s had a few more days as well to train but in this period, you might lose one and unfortunately, we’ve lost one in Dael for Friday.”

On a positive note, Wilder has confirmed Jones will be involved at the Vitality Stadium having missed the last two defeats with illness.

Jones, 22, has been a revelation this season at Boro forging his way into the side winning the Championship Player of the Month award for December. With the players end of season awards coming up, Wilder believes he is one of the leading candidates to win the top gong this year and is pleased to welcome him back.

Wilder continued: “Jonah is okay. He will be involved on Friday.

“If he’s arguably your player of the year, he’d be right up there. Your top three players this season, Isaiah Jones will be up there.

“Ideally we’d have loved him to be involved on Wednesday night. Does it give us a better chance of winning the game of football? Of course it does but it wasn’t the reason why we didn’t pick up any points on Wednesday and on Saturday but delighted to have him back.”
