MIDDLESBROUGH were rampant against Peterborough United as they won 4-0 at London Road.
Marcus Tavernier, Folarin Balogun, Josh Coburn and Duncan Watmore scored the goals that lifted Boro back into the play-offs.
Digital Sports Writer Matty Jones was in attendance and graded the player’s performances…
BORO XI:
6 Lumley – A mixed game for the keeper. Produced a massive save to keep the game level but had a few shaky moments.
6 Dijksteel – A few shaky moments in the game but played his part in keeping a clean sheet for Boro.
7 Fry – Another accomplished performance at the back. Apart from one early misplaced pass, he barely put a foot wrong.
7 McNair – Comfortable at the back all afternoon and provided the assist for Tavernier’s goal. Shows how important he is going forward as well.
6 Jones – A quiet afternoon for the wing-back. Seems like teams are targeting Jones before the game.
6 Bola – Linked up well with Tavernier all afternoon and drive on well down the left hand side.
8 Howson – Marshalled everything in midfield and played a lovely ball to set up Balogun’s goal. Captain’s performance.
8 Tavernier – Covered every blade of grass in midfield, linked up with Bola well and took his goal in style. Great afternoon.
6 Crooks – Steadied the ship in midfield and linked up well with the attack. Unlucky not to score from the edge of the box.
8 Balogun – Continued his fine form with another goal, linked up well and looked dangerous all afternoon
8 Connolly – His work rate was outstanding and was a constant threat in attack. Only thing that was missing was a goal.
Subs:
8 Watmore 69’ – Gave Boro renewed energy when he came on in the closing stages. Brilliant assist for Coburn and took his goal really well.
7 Coburn 74’ – Showed his striker’s instinct by being in the right place at the right time to finish from Watmore’s run.
N/A Peltier 84’
Subs not used: Daniels, Bamba, McGree, Sporar
Man of the match: Marcus Tavernier – A hard one to give as there were so many good performances but Tavernier is so important to Boro.
