DARLINGTON football club will wear their yellow and blue third kit on Saturday in support of Ukraine and its civilians.

The National League club made the decision after several fans called for the move as a sign of solidarity.

The Quakers will wear the kit on Saturday during their home game at Blackwell meadows against Blyth Spartans.

Club officials have also decided to fundraise at Saturday’s match, with all proceeds going to a refugee charity helping people inside and fleeing Ukraine.

Fans have been encouraged to don their yellow shirts for the match.

A statement released by the club read: “We approached the National League and our opponents, who swiftly agreed to the idea - we would like to thank them for supporting it.

“The invasion of Ukraine has led to a huge outpouring of support for the people of Ukraine from all around the world, and in our own small way, we would also like to give our backing.

“We intend to hold a bucket collection on Saturday, the proceeds of which will go to a refugee charity, and we also encourage our fans to wear their yellow DFC shirts in support of Ukraine for the game.

“And if you know any Ukrainian people in the town, why not invite them along to the game?”

Darlington FC will play Blyth Spartans at 3pm on Saturday, March 5 at Blackwell Meadows.
