CARDIFF CITY have held talks over signing Uche Ikpeazu – but Chris Wilder has revealed that a couple of other Championship clubs have also expressed an interest in the out-of-favour forward.

Ikpeazu has been told he can leave Middlesbrough this month, with Wilder not seeing a place for the muscular striker in his future plans.

Cardiff officials have discussed Ikpeazu’s position with the hierarchy at the Riverside, and are expected to make a formal offer ahead of Monday night’s deadline.

However, the Bluebirds are not the only Championship club keen to recruit the 26-year-old, who has scored three goals in 21 appearances since joining Boro from Wycombe in the summer.

“There’s been interest from Cardiff,” said Wilder. “In fact, there’s been interest from a few Championship clubs.

“It’s for the best for the boy to go and play football, 100 per cent. He’s not involved with us, I’ve made it perfectly clear, so that decision now rests with the boy and his agent.”

James Lea-Siliki has also been made available for transfer, and while the Cameroon international’s situation is complicated by the terms of the loan deal that saw him join Boro from Rennes in the summer, productive talks have taken place that leave Wilder confident something will be agreed by Monday night.

“The boy came to play football, and he’s not played football,” said the Boro boss. “He won’t play football now, so the conversations between Kieran, the agent and the parent club are ongoing. I’m positive that something can get done with James as well.”
