How did the players fare in Sunderland's 3-1 home defeat to Lincoln City?
SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):
5 Patterson: Wasn’t directly to blame for any of the goals, but probably wasn’t assertive enough when coming off his line
5 Gooch: Was wasted when asked to play at right-back in the first half, and at least helped drive Sunderland forward in the second
4 Flanagan: Couldn’t get to grips with Maguire all evening and found himself chasing shadows on occasion
4 Doyle: Suffered an uncomfortable evening that culminated in a pushing and shoving match that might have got him into more trouble
4 Cirkin: Wasn’t really a factor as an attacking force and was unable to keep things tight defensively
3 Winchester: Was poor in midfield and got worse when returned to the defence, culminating in his deserved red card
4 Neil: Couldn’t get on the ball in midfield and, when he was in possession, seemed to be doing things at half-speed
4 Embleton: Barely had a touch stationed out wide in the first half, and didn’t improve much after the break
4 Pritchard: Won the penalty with a break into the box, but didn’t see enough of the ball to really make an impact
6 DIAMOND: Sunderland’s best player for the hour or so he was on the field – it will be interesting to see what happens with him next
5 Stewart: His penalty was a poor one, but he was alert enough to follow up and stab home the rebound
Subs:
4 O’Brien (for Diamond, 65): Didn’t really offer anything after coming off the bench in the second half
5 D Hume (for Cirkin, 65): Came close with a strike that was deflected just wide of the post
Hawkes (for Pritchard, 80)
(not used): Carney (gk), Younger, Xhemajli, Taylor.
LINCOLN (4-3-3):
Griffiths 6; Bishop 6 (Melbourne 58, 6), Poole 7, Eyoma 8, Bramall 7; Adelakun 8, McGrandles 7, Sanders 7; Whittaker 8 (Robson 86), Fiorini 6, MAGUIRE 9.
Subs (not used): Long (gk), Sorensen.
Man Of The Match: CHRIS MAGUIRE – Proved a point as he claimed the match-ball on his return to the Stadium of Light.
