LEE JOHNSON been nominated for December's League One Manager of the Month award – with Alex Pritchard shortlisted in the Player of the Month category.

Sunderland’s December form was extremely strong, resulting in Johnson being shortlisted for the Manager of the Month award along with Accrington Stanley’s John Coleman, Wigan Athletic’s Leam Richardson and Rotherham United’s Paul Warne.

With Johnson at the helm, the Black Cats were the busiest League One team in December, with their programme remaining unaffected by the Covid crisis that forced a host of other matches to be postponed.

Sunderland played six league games in December, claiming 14 points thanks to a combined goals tally of 17 for and just three against.

Despite missing a number of key players, and heading to Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, Johnson successfully juggled his resources to climb to the top of the League One table.

Pritchard has been shortlisted for the League One Player of the Month award alongside Rotherham midfielder Dan Barlaser, Charlton goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray and Oxford striker Matty Taylor.

Pritchard claimed a goal and four assists during Sunderland’s six league games in December, and established himself as a key component of the Black Cats’ preferred midfield mix.
