DARLINGTON have signed striker Tyrone O’Neill for a third time as he moves to the Quakers on loan for the rest of the season.

O’Neill returns to Blackwell Meadows from League Two Scunthorpe United. The 22-year-old has managed just four appearances this season for the Irons without scoring a goal and makes the move to Blackwell Meadows following a number of prolific spells with the Quakers in recent years.

He’s scored nine goals in 27 appearances in total for Alun Armstrong’s side. The manager is a big fan of the striker and was keen on signing him permanently in the summer before he made the move to the Football League.

Armstrong said: “We jumped at the chance to sign Tyrone when we heard that he was available for loan because we know what he’s capable of.

“I believe that over the rest of the season we can bring out the best in him.”

O’Neill is available for selection for today’s National League North derby with Spennymoor Town. The reverse fixture on Boxing Day ended in a 1-1 draw at the Brewery Field.
