SUNDERLAND manager Lee Johnson expects to make changes for tomorrow night’s EFL Cup tie against Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

The Black Cats are eyeing up a place in the quarter finals of the competition when they head to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

They’ll be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic by continuing their run in the cup which has seen them beat Port Vale, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic to make it to the last 16.

Sunderland welcomed back Aiden McGeady at the weekend who had been out for the last few weeks with an ankle injury while Lynden Gooch was fit enough for a place on the bench.

However, there are still a number of players out of action and the boss admits he’s going to need as many numbers as possible ahead of a hectic few weeks for the League One side.

“It’s an important spell for us and we need all our squad” said Johnson.

“We’re not good enough yet to be able to cope with just the eleven players in this relentless run.

“We’re going to need to chop and change and we’ll try and do that both scientifically and obviously use the eye as well.”

Nathan Broadhead is still out while Niall Huggins has been given three months to recover from a back injury.
