How did the players fare during Sunderland's 1-0 defeat to Charlton?

SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

6 Hoffman: Made a decent early save from Hoffman and didn’t have a chance with Wycombe’s winner

5 Winchester: Wasn’t able to get forward as much as he would have liked and struggled to shut down Charlton’s wide attackers

7 FLANAGAN: Charged here, there and everywhere in an attempt to shut down the Charlton attack and made a number of important blocks

6 Doyle: Found himself having to put his body on the line on a number of occasions and didn’t shirk a challenge

5 Cirkin: Came within inches of scoring when he fired against the bar, but struggled defensively against the dangerous Leko

6 O’Nien: Tried his best to get a grip on the central area, but would have been sent off had Stockley’s header not gone over the line

5 Neil: Wasn’t one of his better games – found himself chasing shadows on occasion and was sloppy with his passing

5 O’Brien: Came close with an early shot that was saved by MacGillivray but made the wrong decision on a number of occasions

6 Pritchard: Got himself into some decent positions in the final third, but the quality of his final ball into the middle was mixed

4 McGeady: Suffered a day when precious little came off – too many of his crosses and passes went astray

6 Stewart: Saw a decent volley saved by MacGillivray at the end of the first half and tried his best to unsettle the Charlton defence

Subs:

6 Dajaku (for Pritchard, 70): Showed plenty of energy in the final few minutes, but his best effort flew over the bar

5 Gooch (for O’Brien, 70): Charged around in the final third, but never really got the chance to make a telling impact

Evans (for Neil, 80)

(not used): Burge (gk), Hume, Alves, Wright.

CHARLTON (4-4-2):

MacGillivray 8; Matthews 7, Lavelle 5 (Pearce 31, 8), Famewo 7, Purrington 6; LEKO 8 (Jaiyesimi 90), Gilbey 6, Dobson 6, Lee 7 (Clare 80); Washington 6, Stockley 7.

Subs (not used): Henderson (gk), Blackett-Taylor, Davison, Watson.

Man Of The Match: JONATHAN LEKO – The Charlton winger set up his side’s winning threat and was a threat down the right-hand side all game.
