Former Darlington defender Alan White has been appointed the new manager of Darlington RA.

The Wearside League club made the announcement today, installing White as head coach and he will be assisted by coaches Mark Wheldon and Christian Holliday.

Darlington-born White takes over a team 14th in the table and replaces Carl Boyce, who stood down earlier this month due to work and family commitments.

His first game was last night’s 4-3 win over Washington United in the Durham Challenge Cup at Brinkburn Road.

Their next match is on Wednesday, October 27 at home to Coxhoe Athletic (7.30pm).

A club statement read: “We are delighted to announce former Luton Town, Colchester United and Darlington player Alan White as our new head coach to work alongside Mark Wheldon and Christian Bisto Holliday.

“Local lad Alan, is vastly experienced and has been on the management team at Darlington FC.

“Alan is very passionate and brings with him a great level of professionalism which will help us to raise the standard both on and off the pitch.

“We are very excited by the appointment and are looking forward to working with Alan.”

White had three spells as a player with Darlington, first signing in 2007, again in 2009-10 and then returning under Martin Gray in 2013-14. He was a part of Quakers’ promotion-winning squads in 2015 and 2016.

After his playing days ended, White returned to his hometown club in 2017 as assistant manager to Tommy Wright.
