How did the players fare in Sunderland's 4-0 win at Crewe?
CREWE (3-5-2):
Jaaskelainen 5; Daniels 4, Offord 4, Thomas 4 (Sass-Davies 72); Ramsay 5, Murphy 4, Long 4 (Gomes 59, 5), ROBERTSON 6, McFadzean 3; Mandron 6, Bennett 4 (Kashket 59, 4).
Subs (not used): Richards (gk), Adebisi, Porter, Finney.
SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):
7 Hoffman: Didn’t have a lot to do, but made a brilliant save in the second half as he tipped Mandron’s shot around the post
7 Winchester: Continues to look rock solid defensively, and almost added to his goals tally with a decent long-range strike
8 Flanagan: Marshalled the game from the heart of the back four and came close with an early header that was tipped over
7 Doyle: Another composed and authoritative display from the youngster, who certainly isn’t fazed by the hurly-burly of League One
6 Cirkin: Wasn’t really extended defensively and made a couple of useful overlapping breaks down the left-hand side
7 O’Nien: Did the dirty work at the base of midfield and helped establish the platform that enabled Sunderland’s attacking players to break forward
8 Neil: Made some excellent breaks into the Crewe bow and set up Stewart’s first goal with a fine cross from the right
8 O’Brien: Has slotted back into the side seamlessly as put Thomas under pressure to draw the error that opened the scoring
8 PRITCHARD: Was involved in all three of Sunderland’s goals before a knock forced him off in the early stages of the second half
7 McGeady: Caused a threat down the left-hand side as he returned the team and played some excellent passes into the box
8 Stewart: Took his tally for the season to nine with a wonderful angled header and a neat close-range finish
Subs:
8 Dajaku (for Pritchard, 57): Made it 4-0 with a superb solo effort – ran from the halfway line before hammering home
6 Hume (for Cirkin, 65): Continued his return to the side with a 25-minute run out in the second half
(not used): Burge (gk), Wright, Younger, Harrison, Wearne.
Man Of The Match: ALEX PRITCHARD – The Sunderland midfielder was the architect of his side’s success, helping lay on all of the Black Cats’ opening three goals.
