How did the players fare in Newcastle's 3-2 defeat to Tottenham?
NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
6 Darlow: Couldn’t really be faulted for any of Spurs’ goals and actually controlled his penalty area reasonably effectively
5 Manquillo: Provided the assist for Wilson’s goal with a well-weighted cross, but struggled to get forward much after that
4 Lascelles: Was all at sea as Spurs’ attackers poured forward towards the end of the first half and was unable to get close enough to Kane
4 Clark: His lack of mobility was a weakness all afternoon, with Spurs’ forwards successfully running off him
5 Ritchie: Tried to keep things tight on the left of Newcastle’s defence but struggled against the mobility of the Spurs midfield
5 Hayden: Found the game going on around him for long periods and was unable to shut down Spurs’ counter-attacks
4 Longstaff: Repeatedly gave the ball away at the heart of midfield, with his positional wandering leaving him exposed
5 Willock: Started on the front foot, but was quickly forced backwards – wasn’t able to offer a threat in the final third
6 Saint-Maximin: Was one of the few Newcastle players trying to take the fight to the opposition, even if his shooting was wayward
5 Joelinton: Still doesn’t convince playing in a wide-attacking role – offered very little threat to the Spurs defence
7 WILSON: Opened the scoring with an excellent header and continued to try to threaten the Spurs defence
Subs:
2 Shelvey (for Longstaff, 60): Given he was already on a booking, what on earth was he thinking as he hauled down Reguilon?
Fraser (for Wilson, 76)
Murphy (for Willock, 76)
(not used): Gillespie (gk), Lewis, Schar, Fernandez, Murphy, Fraser, Hendrick, Gayle.
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1):
Lloris 6; Royal 6, Romero 7, Dier 6, Reguilon 8; Hojbjerg 7, Skipp 6; Lucas 7, NDOMBELE 8, Son 7; Kane 8.
Subs (not used): Gollini (gk), Sanchez, Winks, Gil, Bergwijn, Tanganga, Davies, Lo Celso, Alli.
Man Of The Match: TANGUY NDOMBELE – Caused the Newcastle defence a series of problems as he burst forward to support Son and Kane.
