HARTLEPOOL United are looking for their first away win of the season when they go to Valley Parade to face Bradford City this evening.

Pools have picked up just one point on the road from six games with the latest defeat coming against Salford City at the weekend losing 2-0 at Moor Lane.

While Pools continue to fall short away from home, manager Dave Challinor is adamant they’ll be back to the hilt by travelling fans who make the relatively short trip to Yorkshire.

“It’s a great game to play in. That’s what I know for certain” said Challinor.

“A game that we will look forward to. Our supporters will travel in their numbers and we need to do more away from home and Tuesday gives us the next opportunity to do that.

“Granted it’s a tough game but I’m not going into it feeling any different. We go there to try and win but in order to give ourselves a chance of winning, we’ve got to be miles better than we were today (against Salford City).”

Gavan Holohan made his first appearance in a Pools shirt for a number of weeks after coming off the bench at Moor Lane.

The Irish midfielder has been struggling with an abductor injury which has ruled him out of action for a number of games.

Joe Grey is another player who is slowly working his way back to full fitness after a long term back injury.

The Pools boss will no doubt want them to be involved this evening but is cautious about throwing them straight into the mix.

Challinor added: “With Joe and with Gav, Joe has had 30 minutes (against Northampton) and then 60 minutes (against Salford City) and now he’s obviously cramping up. From our perspective, they are the only positives.

“Gav gets 30 minutes and hopefully that will have no reaction. Joe gets 60 minutes and hopefully that will have no reaction because they are going to be important players for us, especially with creation and scoring of goals at the top end of the pitch.

“We’ve got to get those two up to speed as quickly as possible. That’s the one positive to come out of the (Salford City) game. Hopefully there’s no adverse reactions to what they’ve just done and we see how they are.

“Potentially, can we increase those minutes on Tuesday? What we can’t afford to do is chuck them in and overload them and lose them as quickly as they’ve got back.”
