How did the players fare in Middlesbrough's 2-0 win over Peterborough?
MIDDLESBROUGH (3-4-1-2):
6 Lumley: Got away with one when he slid in and caught Dembele at the start of the second half – commanded his area well either side of that
6 Howson: Started off as part of the back three before being moved into midfield after the break – defended effectively throughout
8 BAMBA: Produced another imposing display at the heart of the Boro backline and was not inconvenienced by the move to a back three
7 McNair: Took the move back into defence in his stride and held his nerve to drive home Boro’s crucial spot-kick
6 Tavernier: Showed plenty of energy in his right wing-back role, but didn’t always make the right decision when he had the ball
6 Crooks: Had to play in a much deeper role with Howson and McNair both in the backline and made some important interceptions
6 Payero: Wasn’t really able to impose himself on the game as he would have liked, but produced a lovely pass for Coburn’s goal
8 Hernandez: Caused the Peterborough defence problems as he pushed forward from wing-back – tested the keeper with a couple of decent efforts
7 Watmore: Tried to get behind the Peterborough defence on a number of occasions and made a great run forward in the first half
6 Sporar: Wasn’t able to take the couple of half-chances that came his way, but kept on trying to pull the Posh defence out of position
5 Ikpeazu: Didn’t get much change out of Peterborough’s back four and wasted the few opportunities that came his way
Subs:
Jones (for Ikpeazu, 74)
Coburn (for Sporar, 83)
(not used): Daniels (gk), Kokolo, Lea-Siliki, Olusanya.
PETERBOROUGH (5-4-1):
Cornell 5; Thompson 4 (Kanu 90), Edwards 5, KNIGHT 6, Beevers 5, Butler 5; Dembele 6 (Ward 74), Norburn 4, Taylor 4, Grant 6 (Burrows 77); Szmodics 5.
Subs (not used): Blackmore (gk), Kent, Coventry, Tomlinson.
Man Of The Match: SOL BAMBA – The veteran defender has been a revelation in the last few weeks, and was the glue that held together Boro’s makeshift backline.
