POOLS (5-3-2):

8 Killip – Made three important saves during the game to keep Northampton out. One of which to deny Hoskins in the second half was brilliant.

The Northern Echo:

7 Sterry – Another steady and assured performance at the back and delivered a wonderful cross for Ferguson’s header.

6 Byrne – Put his body on the line when it was necessary and made some important clearances.

6 Hendrie – Made some important blocks and marshalled the right hand side well.

7 Francis-Angol – Even though he’s playing out of position, he looks after the left-hand side well.

9 Ferguson – Brilliant all afternoon. Terrific up and down the left-hand side and took his goal really well.

The Northern Echo:

6 Featherstone – one of his quieter days but loves ticking things over in midfield. And is brilliant at it.

6 Shelton – Energetic and competitive in midfield as always, especially in what was a difficult first half.

6 Daly – Another good performance from the youngster but perhaps should have been involved more in the forward areas.

8 Molyneux – A quiet and difficult first half was followed up by running the Northampton defence ragged and scoring the winning goal.

The Northern Echo:

6 Goodwin – Probably knows he have scored with two guilt edged chances but there is a player in that young head.

Subs:

6 Cook (61’) – Looked energetic and wanted to make things happen for Pools.

8 Grey (62’) – Came on and changed the game for Pools going forward. Played a beautiful cross for Molyneux who scored the winner.

N/A Odusina (88’)

Subs not used: Mitchell, Ogle, Cullen, Fondop

NORTHAMPTON (5-4-1): Roberts 7; McWilliams 6, Horsfall 7, McGowan, Guthrie 6, Pinnock 7 (Kabamba 85’); Hoskins 8, Lewis 6, Sowerby 6 (Connolly 78’), Koiki 6; Etete 7 (Ashley-Seal 87’)

Subs: Woods, Pollock, Flores, Dyche

Man of the match: David Ferguson – Took his goal really well and affected the game really well on the left hand side. Consistently showing why he’s a massive figure in the Pools team.
