IT was FA Cup weekend for our local non-league sides where Marske United and Whitby Town were the first ones to progress through to the third qualifying round.

Spennymoor Town and Darlington were held to draws against AFC Fylde and Chester respectively with immediate replays to be held tomorrow night.

Marske United pulled off a shock result against a red hot South Shields side beating them 3-0 at Mount Pleasant in the second qualifying round.

The Seasiders, who are flying high themselves one division below in the Northern Premier League East Division, won the game thanks to goals from Adam Boyes, Curtis Round and Glen Butterworth with all the goals coming in the second half.

It was a similar scenario for Whitby Town who were also 3-0 winners over Prescot Cables.

The Seasiders, who are enjoying a great start to their league campaign, inflicted the damage in both halves with Hartlepool United loanee Josh MacDonald opening the scoring in the 43rd minute before they rounded off the result with a brace from second half substitute and former Boro striker Bradley Fewster.

The draw for the third qualifying round takes place later this afternoon at 1pm.
