MIDDLESBROUGH have officially confirmed Djed Spence's move to Nottingham Forest 18 hours after the closure of the transfer window.

The Championship side had made a late move for the Boro wing-back and were scrambling to complete all the relevant paperwork before the 11pm deadline last night.

It's understood there was a problem at Forest's end of the deal with regards to the paperwork which has delayed the announcement but Spence has now made the switch to the City Ground.

While Spence has featured for Boro this season, Neil Warnock has maintained that the wing-back has shown problems in training with attitude and commitment. The club have been willing to listen to offers for Spence over the course of the summer but it has taken until deadline day for a move to finally happen.

Following a strong display in Boro's recent win over Bristol City, Warnock said he'd seen a change in Spence in training and was looking forward to seeing if he can continue in the same vein over the course of the next few weeks.

However, he wasn't in the matchday squad for Boro's draw with Blackburn Rovers at the weekend and has since completed a move away from the club.

In total, the 21-year-old has featured 70 times for Boro and has scored twice since joining the club from Fulham in 2018. He was given his chance in the first-team under the tenureship of Jonathan Woodgate and took his place in the Boro first-team but has struggled for regular game time under Boro's current boss.

Neil Warnock's side make the trip to Forest shortly after the international break on Wednesday 15th September. Chrus Hughton's side are currently bottom of the Championship table with one point from their opening five games of the season.
