GERMAN winger Leon Dajaku has spoken about of his delight at the prospect of playing at the Stadium of Light after completing a deadline day move to Sunderland.

The 20-year-old has moved to Wearside temporarily after completing a permanent move to German side Union Berlin from Bayern Munich.

The winger has made two appearances for the German champions after signing in 2019 but has also featured for Stuttgart and Union Berlin during a loan spell.

Dajaku told the official club website: “I think for me, I always look to football in England and I’ve always wanted to come here and play football in England so when I heard that I can come here, for me it was the right step to come here.

“I think it’s strong football and it’s fast. They play fast and this is what I like.

“I think Sunderland is normally the club who have to be on the big stage so this is why I choose to come here. For me, Sunderland is a big club.

“This is why I’ve come here, to play well and to bring the team, with my football style, to be a little better and to go up."

“I saw some of the game and saw some of the fans. It’s crazy. For how many fans come in League One, there are so many fans. It’s unbelievable but this is what I like. To have the fans who push you in the game and this is important.

“It is important for me to play a lot here and play well. To have some good games with the team and then I think I can go at another level with the national team. For me at first, it’s important for me to play well here, then I think it will also come with the national team.

“I’m very happy that the first game is here. I am looking forward and I will train hard for the next two weeks. I am happy for when the game will come and I will see all the fans. I hope will stay top of the league."
