How did the players fare in Sunderland's 3-1 win over Wycombe?
SUNDERLAND (4-3-3):
7 Patterson: Was extremely unfortunate to be beaten by Wheeler’s deflected late strike, and continues to look a much better bet than the fit-again Burge
7 Winchester: Another assured display from Sunderland’s makeshift right-back – defended well and got forward when he could
7 Flanagan: Continues to go from strength to strength this season – marked Vokes out of the game and handled Akinfenwa late on
8 Doyle: Strolled through another game at the heart of the Sunderland defence and is already looking like one of the club’s best signings for quite some time
7 Cirkin: Justified his recall to the league line-up with a strong defensive display at left-back that helped shut Wycombe out
8 Embleton: Scored one goal and set up in another in a performance that oozed quality throughout – looks set to be a key player this season
7 O’Nien: Dusted himself down after Horgan appeared to swing a punch at him in the first half and ran the heart of the midfield
8 Neil: Showed why he has to stay in midfield rather than being positioned at full-back – produced a great run and pass for Stewart’s second goal
6 Gooch: Displayed plenty of energy on the right of Sunderland’s attack and was involved in the move for Embleton’s goal
9 STEWART: Took both of his goals superbly and also did an excellent job of holding up the ball and linking play as Sunderland’s central striker
6 McGeady: It wasn’t a day when everything came off for the Irishman, but he still asked repeated questions of the Wycombe defence
Subs:
Pritchard (for McGeady, 86)
O’Brien (for Embleton, 86)
Wright (for Cirkin, 86)
(not used): Burge (gk), Huggins, Alves, Broadhead.
WYCOMBE (3-4-3):
Stockdale 5; Grimmer 4, Tafazolli 4, Jacobson 5; KAIKAI 6 (de Barr 74), Thompson 4, Scowen 5, Obita 6; Horgan 4, Vokes 4 (Akinfenwa 74), Mehmeti 5 (Wheeler 69, 5).
Subs (not used): Przybek (gk), Dickinson, Pendlebury, Burley.
Man Of The Match: ROSS STEWART – Charlie who? Stewart’s performances in the opening month of the season have ensured last season’s leading goalscorer has not been missed.
