NEIL WARNOCK has confirmed his liking of Oliver Burke, with Middlesbrough understood to have opened negotiations for the Sheffield United forward.

Boro have switched their attention to Burke after Dutch winger Mitchell van Bergen opted for a move to French side Stade de Reims ahead of a switch to the Riverside.

“He’s a good player, Oliver,” said Warnock, at this morning’s press call. “He’s alright, I like him. You’ll just have to wait and see…”

Burke, a 24-year-old Scotland international, broke through at Nottingham Forest before moving to the Bundesliga to play with RB Leipzig.

He returned to England to join West Brom, and had loan spells at Celtic and Alaves before moving on to Sheffield United in September 2020.

His time at Bramall Lane has not really gone to plan, and while he still has two years remaining on his contract in South Yorkshire, the Blades have decided to move him on this summer.

Boro are keen to push through a deal as quickly as possible, with the transfer window set to close at 11pm on Tuesday evening.
