MIDDLESBROUGH'S pursuit of Argentine midfielder Martin Payero is finally over after the club confirmed his move from Banfield this afternoon.

The 22-year-old midfielder signs a three-year deal on Teesside and becomes Neil Warnock's sixth signing of the summer.

Payero will wear the number ten shirt in Boro colours next season which is an indication of where Warnock might play him in the side.

Payero flew over to Teesside to complete his move following Argentina's exit from the Tokyo Olympics and he took part in this morning's training session at Rockliffe Park.

The move shows a clear desire on Boro's part to scour the market across different continents and Payero has been high on the club's transfer list this season.

Warnock said: “Martin will be a great addition to the squad.

“I think he will be an exciting signing, we’re delighted to get everything done, and we’re looking forward to working with him.

“I know Martin is looking forward to it, and he can’t wait to play in front of our fans.”
