YOSHINORI Muto has left Newcastle United after the club and player came to an agreement to end his contract.

Muto, 29, leaves the club after making just 28 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies after signing in 2018. He spent a season on loan with Spanish side Eibar last season.

He only found the net twice in the colours of Newcastle scoring away to Manchester United in the Premier League and against Leicester in the League Cup.

Muto becomes the second striker to leave the club in the summer after the club released Andy Carroll following the expiration of his contract at the club.

Joelinton, Dwight Gayle and Callum Wilson are Newcastle's remaining strikers in the squad heading into the new Premier League campaign while Miguel Almiron can also support the attacking lines.

Newcastle are yet to make any new signings ahead of their season opening game against West Ham United next sunday.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Karl Darlow is expected to return to the club's training ground this week.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been in hospital recovering from Covid. While he is expecting at Darsley Park, he won't be participating in full training as he continues to be monitored by the club's staff.
