MARCUS Bettinelli has gone from being on loan at Middlesbrough last season to becoming a Chelsea player after signing a two-year contract today.

Bettinelli left Fulham, a club where he spent over a decade as a goalkeeper, in the summer after the expiration of his contract.

Bettinelli spent the full campaign on loan with Boro where he made 42 appearances and 13 clean sheets. He missed the remaining five games of the campaign as Jordan Archer was tested out between the sticks for Neil Warnock's side.

The 29-year-old was a steady number one for the first half of the season but his perforamces in the second half prompted criticism from fans and pundits as Boro's watertight defence began to ship goals.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in Chelsea's squad, Bettinelli is likely to the play the role of third chpice keeper with the Blues as they go in search of the Premier League title.

He told the Chelsea club website: "I’m really excited to be involved and looking forward to trying to impress and help the team as much as I can."

Chelsea have become the fifth club of Marcus Bettinelli's career.
