MARTIN Payero is free to complete his move to Middlesbrough following Argentina's exit from the men's football tournament at the Tokyo Olympics.
Payero was a second half substitute this afternoon as the Argentine went on to draw 1-1 with Spain but the result wasn't enough to see them qualify from Group C.
Despite the fact that his move from Banfield is nearly there, Neil Warnock told the media after the club's friendly defeat to York City last night that there is still work to be done.
“He’s not (a Middlesbrough player) yet, not as far as I’m aware, although I think it is all done with regard to contracts,” said the Boro boss
“I think it’s financial things still to get sorted, although it’s all so complicated. I’ve spoken to the player, and he’s really looking forward to it.
"I can’t really do any more. I’ve done all I can do, it’s just a case of finalising things now.”
Meanwhile, the Boro boss confirmed last night that the club's chief executive Neil Bausor is in coversation with a number of club's over signing South American players, with Rodrigo Muniz of Flamengo being heavily linked with a move to Teesside.
“Neil has gone over (to South America) to talk to people about a couple of players. He’s met a couple of clubs regarding players over there – not (Martin) Payero, we’re looking at other strikers.
"There were two opportunities, and he’s doing his best to get us someone else on board."
