JAMIE PATERSON is on trial with Middlesbrough, having been released by Bristol City at the end of last season.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has linked up with Neil Warnock's Boro squad at their training camp in the South-West.
He has taken part in a training session with the rest of Boro's players, and will feature in this evening's friendly with Saltash United.
Paterson is a free agent after his Bristol City contract expired last month and was not renewed.
Having previously played with Walsall, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield, Paterson joined Bristol City in 2016.
He has spent the last five years at Ashton Gate, making more than 150 senior appearances for the Robins and also having a brief loan spell at Derby County.
Boro boss Neil Warnock said: "Jamie is a lad I’ve always kept in touch with. It’s a good opportunity to have look at him in this environment, it’s a no-brainer really."
Boro take on Saltash this evening before also tackling games against Tavistock (Wednesday) and Plymouth Argyle (Friday).
