FLORIAN Lejeune is on his way out of Newcastle United to seal a permanent move back to Spanish side Alaves.

The 30-year-old Frenchman spent last season on loan with them making 36 appearances and he is currently in Spain negotiating the terms of a permanent move back to the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

The move would bring an end to his four year stay with Newcastle after moving for £8.7 million back in 2017 from Eibar.

Steve Bruce confirmed the news after the club's 1-0 pre-season defeat to York City in at the LNER Community Stadium.

"Florian is on his way to Spain" said Bruce.

"It looks as if something is going to happen there. It will put a few quid in the coffers.

"He is going back to Alaves where he was on loan and there is something imminent."

Lejeune made 46 appearances for the Magpies in total with the large portions of his spell at St James' Park spent on the treatment table recovering from a knee injury.
