TRAINER Michael Dods is having another cracking season, racking up his 30th winner of the season with Commanche Falls in the Scottish Stewards’ Cup at Hamilton on Friday night.

And Dods, who trains at Denton, near Darlington, can carry on the good work with Hear Me Roar looking for back-to-back wins when Redcar hosts the second day of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival on Sunday.

The son of The Last Lion was named after Peter Appleton, who owns the horse with Anne Elliott, heard the Katy Perry hit “Roar” – with the lyric “Hear Me Roar” – playing at Tenerife Airport.

He broke his maiden on his three-year-old debut over the course and distance in June with the look of a progressive performer and, with Dods reporting him to be in good form, he can defy a 5lbs penalty in the hands of Connor Beasley in the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap.

Flippin’ Eck (pictured below), trained at Malton by Tim Easterby, is another seeking to follow up a Redcar success on his last run. The colt, owned by colourful couple Nick and Lena Rhodes, led close to home over six furlongs in June, with jockey David Allan performing wonders after losing his reins a furlong out. Flippin Eck should, therefore, be suited by the step up to seven furlongs in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

The Northern Echo:

The eight-race card gets underway at 1.10pm with the Join Racing TV Now EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Division One) and Aristobulus, trained at Newmarket by James Ferguson, catches the eye with Group 1-winning jockey Cieren Fallon heading north for a single ride.

Ferguson described Fallon as “a huge talent” after delivering the two-year-old colt with perfect timing to win on his debut at Chelmsford, and the combination can follow up with the benefit of that experience.

The Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap is a tricky affair with Zarzyni, trained by David Barron, and Jedd O’Keeffe’s Out The Hat appearing to be the main protaganists. Out The Hat is up five pounds as he bids for a hat-trick but Zarzyni had looked a winner in waiting when second of 13 at Musslelburgh on his penultimate start. He then flopped badly when sent to The Curragh but is capable of bouncing back.

Orchid Rose, trained at Middleham by Andy Crook, was running on when third of 14 at Ripon on her last run and, with PJ McDonald back in the saddle, she can break her duck in the Racing TV Handicap.

Karen Tutty’s Sands Chorus has already won twice at Redcar this season and has a solid chance of making it three in the Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Selling Stakes, with the trainer’s daughter, Gemma, taking off three pounds.

Richard Fahey hosted the launch of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival at his Malton yard on Monday and he can strike with Riches and Rubies in the Redcar Cricket Club Handicap. The three-year-old filly was a promising second at Beverley a fortnight ago and can go one better with former champion Paul Hanagan in the plate.

Hanagan has enjoyed a stellar career but it is those just starting out who have a chance to shine in final race, the Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Handicap. Jonny Peate has a decent record of eight wins from 41 rides and he has a live chance of adding to his tally on board Mark Johnston’s Justified, a winner at Chelmsford in April.
