REMI MATTHEWS has joined Premier League side Crystal Palace following his release from Sunderland at the end of last season.
Matthews joined the Black Cats last summer, signing a one-year deal, and spent 12 months with the club.
He made six League One appearances and five cup outings, although he did not reappear after producing an error-strewn display as he was surprisingly recalled to Lee Johnson’s starting side for February’s league defeat at Shrewsbury.
He was not offered a new deal, and was released at the end of the season, enabling him to join Palace on a two-year deal.
Matthews will help bolster the top-flight club’s goalkeeping ranks after Wayne Hennessey and Stephen Henderson both moved on.
Matthews, who joined Sunderland after a spell at Bolton Wanderers, said: “I can’t get wait to get started. I’ve got two great goalkeepers to look up to in Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland. It’s great to be a part of it and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Palace chairman Steve Parrish added: “Remi brings plenty of Football League experience with him and we are really pleased to add him to our goalkeeping ranks.”
