Newcastle United are in talks with Premier League new boys Watford over a deal to sign midfielder Will Hughes.

The 26-year-old has made over 100 appearances for the Hornets since signing in 2017 from Championship side Derby County and helped the side to promotion last season.

Reports suggest that the Magpies would need to fork out somewhere in the region of £12 milllion to prize Hughes away from Vicarage Road.

Hughes has made over 300 appearances in his club career and has featured for England at Under-21 level. Apart from last season, he spent three years playing at Premier League level playing for Watford.

Newcastle are well stocked in the middle of the park with the likes of Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Matty and Sean Longstaff but Hughes would provide fresh competition at the club as they look to improve on their bottom half finish from last season.

Steve Bruce and his recruitment staff are yet to seal any summer transfers yet ahead of the Premier League season which gets underway in around a month's time when they host West Ham United at St James' Park.
