Danny Rose should be wearing a Newcastle shirt again according to former Scotland and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish.

The 30-year-old full-back has finally been released by Tottenham Hotspur after being left out in the cold by the club for the two seasons. It ends his 13 year association with the club.

Rose spent time on loan at St James' Park back in the 2019/20 season where he made 13 appearances and he would be available on a free transfer over the summer.

The Magpies currently have Jamal Lewis, Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie who can all play at left-back and Rose would provide stiff competition if they were to make a move.

"Rose is a great player. In fact, Newcastle fans actually would love Danny Rose to go back" McLeish said.

“With Danny, it’s does he love football?

“He spoke about: ‘I’ll just walk away and retire then,’ last year when he was maybe in the huff a wee bit.

“But what a good player Newcastle would get on a free transfer. Incredible.”

Other pundits are urging other clubs to move for Rose, who has made over 300 career appearances for club and country, with former side Leeds Unitied being mentioned.

Rose also has 29 England caps and played for the national side at the 2018 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Portuguese newspaper Record say Newcastle are one of serveral English clubs eyeing up a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Mathues Nunes.

It's claimed that Newcastle made an approach back in January for the 22-year-old but Sporting decided to keep hold of him as they went on to secure Premiera Liga title.

Now, Record are reporting that they're lining up replacements for Nunes amid growing interest from England.
