Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says Joe Willock will stay with them next season putting to bed any potential hopes of Newcastle re-signing him in the summer.

The Gunners loanee has scored in six consecutive Premier League games for Steve Bruce's side and has made 13 appearances since moving to St James' Park in February.

Fans gathered outside the stadium on Wednesday evening after Willock's goal gave Newcastle a 1-0 win over Sheffield United and pleaded with him to come back to the club next season.

However, after a strong spell on Tyneside, Arteta has said the 21-year-old is part of his plans for next season.

"I am really happy things have gone so well for Joe because of the potential he has," said Arteta.

"It was great for him to go away and have a different experience. He has grabbed that opportunity in a really positive and remarkable way and he will be back with us.

"We will have those conversations with him and plan the next few years with him.

"He got the responsibility and the task to go to Newcastle to help them go where they want.

"I spoke with the coaching staff and they are extremely happy. He was a key part of getting the objective they have."

Newcastle play their final game of the season on Sunday away to already relegated Fulham where they could finish as high as 12th in the table.
