Despite three games left in their Premier League campaign, Newcastle United have confirmed their first pre season friendly opponents over the summer.

The Magpies will take a squad of players to National League North side York City while the other half will head to League Two side Harrogate Town.

The recently opened LNER Stadium replaced Bootham Crescent as York City’s home ground and Steve Bruce’s side will be one of the first teams to grace the turf when they make the short trip to Yorkshire.

Harrogate Town will provide a sterner test for Newcastle having retained their Football League status this season finishing in 17th place in League Two. The previous campaign saw them promoted from the National League whilst winning the FA Trophy.

The games will be played on Sunday 18th July with kick off times yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce says he hopes to remain in charge next season after steering them away from the Premier League relegation zone.

Bruce has been under intense scrutiny for a lot of the campaign and fans have often vented their frustrations at the side online and on social media for their lacklustre performances.

Newcastle host Manchester City this evening before games against Sheffield United and Fulham before the season reaches it’s conclusion and Bruce will be hoping those won’t be his last games in the dugout for Mike Ashley’s side.

Callum Wilson will be unavailable for their three remaining games after picking up a hamstring injuy in their 4-2 win over Leicester City.
