How did the players fare in Sunderland's 1-1 draw with Northampton?

SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

6 Burge: Was a bystander for the vast majority of the game and had no chance with Hoskins’ deflected free-kick

6 McLaughlin: Got another 52 minutes under his belt as he continues to build up his fitness, and was never really extended

4 Wright: Didn’t seem switched off for much of the first half and conceded the free-kick that led to Northampton’s goal

6 O’Nien: Kept the Cobblers attack quiet for most of the game – will he remain at centre-half ahead of Flanagan in the play-offs?

6 Hume: Tried to be positive down the left-hand side, even if a number of his balls into the middle came to nothing

4 Power: Is back in midfield rather than at full-back, but repeatedly gave the ball away under little or no pressure

5 Scowen: Covered plenty of ground at the heart of midfield, but did precious little when he had the ball at his feet

4 Diamond: Didn’t trouble the Northampton defence from his position on the right and was substituted at half-time

6 Gooch: Spent the first half as a number ten and the second half playing at right-back – his versatility remains a key asset

7 JONES: Kept on trying to create a spark, and set up Winchester’s goal with a cross that struck the inside of both posts

5 Wyke: Proved his wellbeing after his injury scare, although never really had a chance to threaten the Northampton goal

Subs:

5 McGeady (for Diamond, 46): Wasn’t able to change the course of the game after coming on at the interval

5 Maguire (for McLaughlin, 52): Replaced Gooch in the number ten role and tried to be a positive force

5 Leadbitter (for Scowen, 66): Slotted into the heart of midfield without any fuss

5 O’Brien (for Wyke, 66): Might have done better with a shot that sailed over the bar

6 Winchester (for Power, 66): Was in the right place at the right time to claim Sunderland’s equaliser

(not used): Matthews (gk), McFadzean.

NORTHAMPTON (4-3-3):

Mitchell 6; HOSKINS 7, Jones 7, Horsfall 7, Harriman 6; McWilliams 6, Morris 5, Watson 5 (Roberts 86); Marshall 6 (Cross 79), Rose 4 (Ashley-Seal 86), Miller 5 (Chukwuemeka 75).

Subs (not used): Woods (gk), Bolger, Jones.

Man Of The Match: JORDAN JONES – The winger was one of the few players constantly trying to make something happen, and delivered the cross that led to the equaliser.
