NEWCASTLE UNITED have lost their appeal against Fabian Schar's dismissal in last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Schar was dismissed in the 90th minute of the game after mistiming a challenge on Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli.

Speaking after the game, Steve Bruce claimed the offence was "a yellow card at best", but an independent FA disciplinary panel has upheld referee Mike Dean's decision to brandish a straight red card.

As a result, Schar will have to sit out the forthcoming games against Leicester, Manchester City and Sheffield United.

He will, however, be available to face Fulham on the final day of the season.
