NATIONAL HUNT devotees have the chance to sit back and enjoy the race of the season so far when the starter lifts the tape for Kempton's glittering King George V1 Chase.

Reigning Cheltenham Gold Cup holder and winner of the £200,000 south London showpiece 12 months ago, Kauto Star, bids to retain his crown against a high-quality field.

Much as I admire market leader, "King Kauto", he could be vulnerable to My Way de Solzen (2.30), who at around 6-1 is my each-way advice to upset the odds-on favourite.

Alan King admitted leaving My Way de Solzen short of peak fitness after his ace was well and truly drubbed in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November.

"It'll be a big ask taking on Kauto Star and Exotic Dancer again, but I'm sure he'll have improved a fair bit since Haydock.

"I galloped him on the Wednesday following that defeat and he's worked twice a week ever since," said King, seeking not to make the same mistake twice.

Paul Nicholls on the other hand has simply kept Kauto Star ticking over and in his heart-of-hearts must fear his horse is shaping more and more like an out-and-out stayer.

For all of his machine-like manner of grinding out success, if it comes down to a dash for the line, speedy My Way de Solzen might conceivably produce the superior turn of foot.
