MIDDLESBROUGH’S deadline-day dealing will revolve around Famara Diedhiou – with Neil Warnock still hopeful of pulling off a move for the Bristol City striker.

Warnock has signed Yannick Bolasie and Darnell Fisher this month, with the duo both having made their debuts in yesterday’s goalless draw at Norwich City.

Ideally, he would like to make one more signing ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm deadline, with Diedhiou currently at the forefront of his thoughts.

Boro officials have been monitoring Diedhiou’s position all month, with the 28-year-old having entered the final six months of his current contract at Ashton Gate.

The Teessiders have been linked with a possible £500,000 offer, while a possible swap deal involving Britt Assombalonga, who is also in the final six months of his current deal at the Riverside, has also been mooted.

At this stage, it is understood that discussions have not progressed to the point of a formal bid, with Diedhiou having played the full 90 minutes of Bristol City’s 1-0 defeat at Derby County yesterday.

Discussions are set to take place tomorrow morning which will determine whether the situation is likely to result in a deadline-day agreement.

“I’m hoping to get another one in, maybe two,” said Warnock, in his post-match interview yesterday. “I just don’t know, this is a horrible window. I don’t know if there is anyone going out. Silly things happen in the last 24 hours.”

Warnock is willing to lose Assombalonga, who was an unused substitute in Boro’s draw at Carrow Road, as long as he is guaranteed to secure a replacement, but a swap deal involving Diedhiou would be difficult to broker given the wage agreements currently in place for both strikers.

There could be a number of departures from the Boro squad tomorrow, with Sam Folarin and Isaiah Jones both having been lined up for loan moves.

Boro could also listen to loan offers for Lewis Wing and Hayden Coulson, with the former having been an unused substitute at Norwich and the latter having come on for the final four minutes.
