How did the players fare in Newcastle's 2-1 home win over Everton?
NEWCASTLE (5-3-2):
7 Darlow: Didn’t have to make a lot of saves, but came off his line effectively to deal with crosses, especially in the closing stages
7 Murphy: Has been a revelation since being switched to right wing-back and carried on the fine form he had displayed against Wolves
6 Schar: Looked comfortable as the right of the three centre-halves, although some of his long balls out of defence failed to find their target
7 Lascelles: Kept Calvert-Lewin quiet for the vast majority of the game and made a couple of crucial sliding blocks
7 Fernandez: Was a big factor in Newcastle’s solid defensive display with his polished tackling and good use of the ball
7 Lewis: Did well against Sigurdsson when he drifted out wide and prevented Kenny from getting forward from full-back
8 S Longstaff: Delivered his best performance of the season by a distance and was unlucky not to score when Olsen produced a superb save
7 Hendrick: Got the nod to start ahead of Hayden and did the dirty work at the base of the Newcastle midfield
6 Almiron: Didn’t carry much of an attacking threat, but carried out his defensive duties in an extremely disciplined fashion
6 Saint-Maximin: Spent much of the afternoon hobbling around looking frustrated, but came close with a first-half shot that Olsen saved
8 WILSON: Made the difference as he won and converted a penalty before converting Fraser’s cross to double his side’s lead
Subs:
Fraser (for Saint-Maximin, 74)
Hayden (for Almiron, 83)
Carroll (for Wilson, 87)
(not used): Gillespie (gk), Clark, Manquillo, Joelinton.
EVERTON (4-3-2-1):
OLSEN 6; Kenny 5 (Iwobi 76), Mina 6, Keane 6, Nkounkou 5 (Tosun 68, 4); Doucoure 5, Allan 5, Delph 4; Sigurdsson 5, Gomes 4 (Bernard 60, 5); Calvert-Lewin 6.
Subs (not used): Pickford (gk), Gordon, Branthwaite, Simms.
Man Of The Match: CALLUM WILSON – The striker has made a superb start to his Newcastle career, with his latest brace taking his tally to six goals from seven league matches.
