How did the players fare in Middlesbrough's 3-0 home defeat to Swansea City?

Stojanovic: Couldn’t be blamed for any of Swansea’s goals and made a couple of decent catches under pressure in the six-yard box 5

Howson: Struggled at full-back in the first half, but helped hold things together after he was switched to centre-half in the second period 5

Shotton: Lost Brewster for Swansea’s second goal and was put out of his misery when he was replaced at half-time 3

Fry: Couldn’t deal with Brewster’s pace and movement and looked better he was part of a five earlier in the season 4

Friend: Struggled badly as he conceded a penalty with a clumsy trip and left Kalulu clean through when he slipped early on 3

Clayton: Looked completely off the pace throughout the first half as he failed to keep tabs on Swansea’s midfield runners 3

Nmecha: Was a surprise starter on the right-hand side and did precious little to justify his place in the side 3

McNair: Found himself overrun at the heart of midfield, but tried to keep on going in the second half 5

Wing: Struggled to get into the Swansea penalty area and found himself having to sit deeper in the second period 5

Coulson: Played in an attacking role rather than at full-back, but wasn’t able to trouble the Swansea defence 4

Gestede: Failed to find the target with a couple of headers either side of the break, but suffered from a lack of service 5

ROBERTS (for Clayton, 46): Was one of the few bright sparks after he was introduced at the break and will surely start at Stoke 7

Spence (for Shotton, 46): Added some much-needed drive and energy down the right-hand side in the second half 6

Johnson (for Coulson, 54): Wasn’t able to make any difference as he patrolled the left flank in the closing stages 5

Assombalonga (for Gestede, 69): Was only given 21 minutes to try to make a difference – must have a chance of starting next weekend 4

Fletcher (for Nmecha, 69): Was a surprise omission from the starting line-up and Boro missed his threat in attack 4
