DAVE Challinor is out to change the outlook and mentality at Hartlepool United.

Pools and their manager were frustrated at the weekend as they conceded in injury time at Dover, their lead cancelled out at the death.

And, amid a habit of chucking leads away, the Pools boss said: “It’s my job here to look at things now and in the summer and see if it’s personnel or mentality. Can players change? It’s about assessing what we have and what we add to it – know how, experience, being a fitter team to play how I want for longer periods. We have to look at all those things and do as best as we can now.’’

Pools took the lead in the first half when Gavan Holohan’s cross from deep was headed into his own net by home skipper Kevin Lokko.

But home substitute Nassim L’Ghoul ghosted into the area and his low shot bounced across keeper Mitch Beeney and in off the far post.

Challinor added on BBC Tees: “We’ve got a point from a game which we should have had three. We can do better, but a stroke of luck – Mitch slips as the ball goes in – works for them and not us.

“It won’t be now, but in the next couple of days we will reflect on the positives from it.

“First 45 minutes and players did what was asked of them. We got on the front foot and controlled the game. We were deserved to be in front.

“As a back four they dropped off to deep for me and we rolled our luck a bit. We weren’t a huge threat, but were comfortable on the counter attack.

“We thought we had seen off their biggest threat and then we concede.

“We have had things go against us in injury time which cost us two points.’’

Pools weren’t able to field new signing Aidan Keena, the striker signed from Hearts on Friday has yet to received clearance from the Scottish FA.
