HORSE racing enthusiasts are being offered the chance to relish the “sport of kings” with a value for money offer that’s a guaranteed winner.

Go Racing in Yorkshire’s new season ticket can be purchased now, giving unbeatable access to the Grandstand and paddock enclosures at some of the country’s most beautiful and friendly courses.

The ticket applies to the family enclosure at York’s Ebor Festival and on St Leger Day at Doncaster, with discounted upgrades available in advance.

Nine courses come under the Go Racing in Yorkshire banner – Beverley, Catterick, Doncaster, Pontefract, Redcar, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby, and York – and the season ticket offers potential savings of more than £1,300.

Exciting racing takes place at one of those courses most weekends, with plenty more action on weekdays throughout the season. Whether your preference is the Flat or National Hunt, Yorkshire has plenty to offer.

There are two types of season ticket available: a single ticket costs £370, and a joint ticket – for two people living at the same address – is priced at £580. A £3 booking fee applies.

The season ticket is valid for March 1 2020 to February 28 2021 but anyone who applies now has the bonus of the ticket being valid immediately, providing free racing for the rest of January and February.

The ticket comes with free parking (except on-site parking at the St Leger Festival at Doncaster). And, as if a feast of horse racing isn’t enough, season ticket-holders are granted free admission at 10 selected Yorkshire County Cricket Club matches.

Yorkshire is, of course, renowned for its rich racing traditions, with some of the country’s leading trainers and jockeys based in the county.

Definitely Red, trained at Malton by Brian Ellison, was crowned Yorkshire Horse of the Year at the Go Racing in Yorkshire Annual Awards Lunch in December, and is being aimed at the Grand National.

Phil Kirby, who trains at Richmond, was the leading Yorkshire Jumps Trainer of the Year and his stable includes the prolific and popular mare Lady Buttons.

On the Flat, Yorkshire racegoers will have plenty of chances to see last year’s runner-up in the national Jockeys’ Championship, Danny Tudhope, in action.

Danny, who has been Yorkshire’s top flat jockey for the past three seasons, has vowed to have another crack at the national title in 2020. He is stable jockey for another first-class Yorkshire trainer in David O’Meara, who produced flying grey Lord Glitters to win the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last season and trained his 1,000th winner on Boxing Day.

‘Middleham Maestro’ Mark Johnston is another Yorkshire-based star of the industry, having just set a new record for the most winners in a calendar year. Meanwhile, Tim Easterby, who trains at Malton, is fresh from hitting the 2,000 winner mark in 2019.

Doncaster is the historic home of the world’s oldest classic, the St Leger, and York’s Ebor Festival is one of the highlights of the international racing calendar, rivalling Royal Ascot for the quality of horses on view.

Other Yorkshire highlights include the valuable Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar in October, and the North Yorkshire Grand National, which takes place on Thursday (January 9) at Catterick.

Season ticket holders only need to attend a meeting once a fortnight to easily cover their costs, so look no further if you are considering a gift for someone who loves their racing.
