MIDDLESBROUGH (5-3-1-1):
7 Pears: Didn’t have much to do, but made a good low save from Ameobi at the start of the second half
6 Spence: Did not look out of place on his second league appearance, but wasn’t able to repeat Saturday’s threat in attack
7 Howson: Was beaten by Yates for the header that opened the scoring for Forest, but performed well at both centre-half and full-back
8 AYALA: Defended superbly throughout, winning headers, making tackles and putting his body on the line to block shots
7 Fry: Another impressive performance from the youngster, whose positional sense continues to improve
6 Coulson: Delivered some useful crosses from the left-hand side and put in a hard-working shift defensively
7 McNair: Became much more of an attacking factor in the second half and held his nerve to level from the spot
5 Clayton: Positioned himself in front of the three centre-halves, but was extremely sloppy when in possession
6 Saville: Worked away diligently at the heart of midfield and helped shut down Forest’s attacking play
6 Tavernier: Was quickly dropped back into midfield after starting up front, but wasn’t really able to offer an attacking threat
5 Fletcher: Battled away against the Forest centre-halves, but found himself isolated for most of the game
Subs:
7 Johnson (for Spence, 67): Made a superb run to latch on to McNair’s through ball and win Boro’s penalty
Walker (for Clayton, 73)
(not used): Mejias (gk), Wood, Bola, Liddle, O’Neill.
Man Of The Match: DANIEL AYALA – The Boro skipper led the defensive line superbly and ensured Grabban was unable to offer any kind of attacking threat.
