JAMAAL LASCELLES thinks Newcastle United’s front three is about to show the Premier League that it can produce goals to go with performances.

The Magpies’ expensively assembled forward line has only scored one goal between them this season and the wait goes on to see when that figure will improve.

Criticism has been levelled at both £40m man Joelinton and £21m buy Miguel Almiron this season for failing to repay the sums paid out on them with goals.

And £17m winger Allan Saint-Maximim is yet to bulge the net either, although all three turned in their best performance of the season together to help Newcastle to a 3-2 win at West Ham United on Saturday.

Lascelles was part of the team that won at the London Stadium and he was hugely impressed with them all, even if he is stunned by the fact none have hit the scoresheet as regular as they would have liked.

"I think once one of them gets that goal, it'll just break the ice and then they can start expressing themselves more," Lascelles told Sky Sports. "The three of them are always banging in goals, left, right and centre in training. They like to express themselves, so I just think it's about getting past that first hurdle.

"You have always got the big man Andy (Carroll) on the bench. When Dwight Gayle's back fully fit, we have an exciting team and I think we are in a good position now. Hopefully, we can get another win before the international break and then we'll be really confident."

Newcastle climbed out of the relegation zone by winning at West Ham when Joelinton, Saint-Maximim and Almiron all made life difficult for the Hammers. Joelinton is the only one so far who has scored, having hit the net against Tottenham in August.
