ANTONY Sweeney is expected to be in charge of Hartlepool United this weekend.
The club’s search for a new manager to replace Craig Hignett, sacked last Thursday, is not being viewed as a quick process.
A shortlist is in the process of being drawn up before formal interviews take place. Chief executive Mark Maguire is overseeing the initial process.
Maguire is overseeing the club’s long-term drive to get back to the Football League, establishing Project 25 with the aim of reaching League One by 2025.
Appointing the right manager is key to any aspirations of success. Hignett was part of his vision, but the club unceremonially dumped him after last week’s defeat at Stockport.
They have had plenty applications for the post and Maguire and the club’s directors are in the easly stages.
Sweeney will conduct the club’s weekly pre-match media duties at the training ground on Thursday morning, the former midfielder overseeing last weekend’s 3-0 win at Aldershot.
While he is not necessarily a candidate for the job, his coaching skills and management potential have been noted at the club.
Pools take on Brackley Town in the FA Cup at Victoria Park on Saturday, with Sweeney again assisted by Ian McGuckin and Ross Turnbull in the dug out.
The club has reduced ticket prices for the game, with adult admission at £10 and concessions £5.
