HARTLEPOOL UNITED will have a full compliment of players for tonight’s game with Chesterfield.

Following Saturday’s game with Dover, after which an arrest was made on suspicion of racially aggravated public order, a number of Pools players were considering their immediate future.

But chief executive Mark Maguire has revealed all the squad are available this evening.

Speaking to BBC Tees this morning, Maguire said: “We have been keen, since Saturday, to show that actions speak louder than words. The chairman has been to meet those players, and we sat down with all the players as a squad to explain what the club was doing.

“It’s easy in a situation like this to make statement after statement stating the obvious – that we condemn disgusting behaviour and racism. But it’s about what we do.’’

He added: “Without putting words in the players’ mouths they are happy with the action the club has taken and all of them are available and all of them have agreed the job now is to pull together, galvanise themselves and take a stand. They are all involved and will all be around tonight.

“The meeting was determined, honest and straight-talking. There had clearly been some time for reflection since the emotion of Saturday afternoon.

“I spent Sunday speaking to people and talking to organisations like Kick It Out which was important.

“There was a determination to take a stand and it was a very positive meeting on that regard.’’

The club will be handing out cards with the slogan “Love Pools, Hate Racism” for supporters to display in a show of unity this evening.
