How did the players fare in Sunderland's 1-1 draw at Bolton?
BOLTON (4-1-4-1):
Matthews 8; Emmanuel 6, Hobbs 7, Wright 7 (Zouma 77), Chicksen 6; Bridcutt 7; POLITIC 8, Lowe 7, Crawford 7, Verlinden 6 (Murphy 89); Buckley 6.
Subs (not used): Alexander (gk), Weir, Darcy, Brown, Senior.
SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):
5 J McLaughlin: Didn’t have a chance with Bolton’s goal, but his distribution wasn’t up to its usual standards
6 O’Nien: His versatility was a major asset once again as he found himself moved from right-back to left-back for the second half
6 WILLIS: The pick of the Sunderland defence for the second game in a row as he marshalled things from the heart of the back four
4 Flanagan: Lost his man as Bolton equalised and failed to even find the target with three free headers
4 Hume: Was all over the place in the first half and was withdrawn at the interval to avoid further embarrassment
5 Leadbitter: Delivered some dangerous set-pieces, but wasn’t able to dictate things from the heart of midfield
5 Dobson: Tried to provide some energy in central midfield, but was thwarted whenever he broke into the box
4 Gooch: Keeps on getting into decent positions – keeps on letting himself down by taking a series of wrong decisions
5 Maguire: Added some energy to Sunderland’s attacks, with his second-half substitution sparking a furious reaction in the stands
6 McGeady: Forced a couple of decent second-half saves from Matthews and held his nerve to convert from the spot
4 Grigg: Wasn’t able to get behind the Bolton defence, and missed the target with a glorious headed opportunity
Subs:
4 C McLaughlin (for Hume, 46): Came on at right-back, but was at least partially at fault for Bolton’s goal
5 Wyke (for Maguire, 66): His physical attributes helped unsettle the Bolton defence in the closing stages
Power (for Leadbitter, 74)
(not used): Burge (gk), Ozturk, McGeouch, Embleton.
Man Of The Match: DENNIS POLITIC – Denver Hume will still be having nightmares after the Bolton winger ran him ragged in the first half
