SAVANNAH MARSHALL makes her Matchroom debut in London on Saturday night – and the Hartlepool fighter is already targeting a rematch with middleweight World champion Claressa Shields.

Marshall will put her unbeaten professional record on the line when she takes on Brazilian Daniele Basteri in an eight-round super-middleweight contest at the O2 Arena on the undercard of Luke Campbell’s lightweight World title clash with Vasiliy Lomachenko.

The 28-year-old recently switched to the Matchroom stable, and is being lined up for a rematch with Shields, who was her long-term rival in the amateur ranks.

Marshall outpointed Shields, who is widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound female fighter in the world, as part of her run to becoming amateur World champion in 2012, and is confident she would be able to repeat the feat if the pair were to meet in a professional contest.

“Claressa is the undisputed middleweight champion, so in that aspect, she is ahead of me,” said Marshall, who is nicknamed the ‘Silent Assassin’. “I believe that fight will happen soon and that I will beat her again, like I did as an amateur.

“I think I’m twice the fighter now than I was when we last fought, so it makes no difference to me where the fight takes place, I’ll beat her again.

“I had almost 100 amateur bouts and I’ve come up against all sizes and styles of opponents. I’ve boxed all over the world, so there’s not that many styles I haven’t come across. I just want to show the world what I am capable of and what I can do. You can expect to see a bit of everything from me on Saturday, I will win in good fashion.”

Marshall’s confidence is well-founded on the evidence of her professional outings so far, with the North-Easterner having impressed inside the ring, even if some of her choices outside the ropes did not really turn out as planned.

A switch to Floyd Mayweather’s promotional operation in the United States failed to bring the rewards that were promised, but since returning to England, where she trains as part of Hughie Fury’s stable in Bolton, Marshall has gone from strength to strength.

She demolished Bulgarian Borislava Goranova inside one round at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse in her last outing, a display that persuaded Eddie Hearn to sign her up for his Matchroom operation.

“I’ve been pro now for just gone two years, and it has been quite slow in the sense that I haven’t moved forward as quickly as I would have hoped,” said Marshall. “Matchroom are the biggest promotional company in the game though, they have shows all the time, so for that reason the fights are there for me.

“I'm in this sport to become a World champion. I'm not the type of person to do something half-heartedly. I’ve been boxing since I was 11 years old, and if I didn’t feel like I was at world level, then there would be no point in me being here.”
