RACEGOERS are being given the chance of a tonic with fabulous prizes on offer in the summer fashion stakes.

The ever-popular Gin & Gents Evening meeting takes place at Redcar Races this Saturday with action-packed sport combined with fun and glamour.

As well as seven races, spectators can boogie along to The Persuaders, try their luck on fun casino tables, and win glittering prizes by strutting their stuff on the red carpet in the Best-Dressed Gent and Best-Dressed Couple Competitions.

First prize in the Best-Dressed Gent Competition comprises a men’s suit, shirt, tie, handkerchief and shoes from Bakers Tailoring, plus a Hugo Boss Watch from Market Cross Jewellers. The winner will also receive a bottle of champagne and have the honour of presenting the trophy to the winners of the fifth race.

Second prize is a £50 gift voucher from Market Cross Jewellers and a voucher for four tickets to Redcar Racecourse. Third prize is two tickets to a Redcar race meeting.

The winners of the Best-Dressed Couple will win a ladies’ Olivia Burton watch and a gents’ Tommy Hilfiger watch provided by Market Cross Jewellers. They will also win one-day hat hire from Chic Hats, plus a cut and blow dry with styling product goodie bag from Orange Kerr and Beauty, a bouquet of flowers and bottle of champagne.

Redcar’s general manager Amy Fair said: “Gin and Gents Evening is one of our most popular meetings of the year. We’ve already had a wonderfully glamorous turnout for Ladies’ Day in June and now it’s the turn of the men and couples to put on the style.”

Last year’s Best-Dressed Gent was retired steelworker Russ Parker, from Ormesby, and the Best-Dressed couple were newly-weds Paul and Marita Leadbetter, from Newton Aycliffe.

This year, the first race is at 4.55pm, with gates opening at 3pm.
